At Challenges Addiction Treatment Center are experience has shown that some individuals with addiction may develop narcissistic behaviors that may become so severe that in becomes a disorder. There are certain characteristics that may become evident to family and friends that the individual is oblivious to. Such attitude and behavior changes are a grandiose sense of self-importance, preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love, believe they are special, desire excessive admiration with a sense of entitlement, manipulates others to achieve their own goals and is lacking of empathy.
Challenges has found these individuals lacking of the social skills for healthy social functioning. People with a narcissistic personality disorder lack the understanding of humility, cooperation/generosity, and kindness.
The aforementioned symptoms or signs allow for Challenges to create a treatment plan that is encompassing of CBT, Group Therapy and a 12 Step Program. The individuals will first learn what the issue is and then begin learning the coping skills to life one day at a time. The goal is to acknowledge there is a fundamental defect in their perception of themselves and others around them.
Although, changing personality traits can be the most rigorous part of treatment, Challenges Addiction Treatment Center has developed the support and resources to enable the individual to continue growing in a positive manner in and outside of treatment.
