Though not as well known as some of the other members of the oxycodone family, Roxicet is just an effective pain reliever as percocet. In fact, it’s the same drug as percocet. Roxicet is merely another brand of oxycodone and acetaminophen (tylenol) available on the market. The difference is that Roxicet has several different levels of acetaminophen available in the pills, whereas Percocet only has one level. This has absolutely no bearing on the efficacy of the pain reliever, oxycodone, though.

Roxicet dangers of abuse

The active mediation in Roxicet, oxycodone, is designed to attach to the opioid receptors in the spinal cord, brain and gastrointestinal system and the result is a change in the way the body perceives pain. Instead of patients experiencing extreme discomfort due to an injury or surgery, they experience a sense of well being, or even euphoria. This sense of pleasure can lead to some patients building a tolerance to the drug as they take more and more to achieve the original levels of euphoria they first experienced when they began taking the drug.

One problem that may occur with users that are prescribed Roxicet rather than percocet is the perception that it is an inferior drug to percocet because it is not as well known. Due to a placebo effect, wherein the patient believes they are not receiving the same level of pain relief, some patients may begin taking more Roxicet than their doctor initially prescribed, building up the tolerance for oxycodone in their system.

Roxicet side effects

Short –term, well-known side effects for Roxicet are similar to those of the other members of the opioid family, such as percocet and oxycontin, and they include drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. Due to the acetaminophen in the drug, liver problems can also be a side effect, and some users experience a slight yellowing of the skin.

Once long-term use has been reached, recreational users or abusers of Roxicet may experience serious side effects that include seizures, dangerously high body temperatures, irregular heartbeats, anxiety and even paranoia.

Roxicet abuse and addiction

Recreational users of Roxicet will frequently take roxies in pill form, but other, heavier users, may crush the pill up and begin snorting roxies or injecting roxies once they learn how to shoot up roxies. These methods of ingestion provide a strong, faster rush than the time release of the pill, but may cause a severe overdose, even though common perception is that prescription drugs are safer than illicit drugs. Users that have developed a high tolerance for Roxicet will see more than one doctor to get several prescriptions for the same drug, and have them filled at different pharmacies so that no one is wise to their drug abuse. Heavy users will even attempt to get access to pain medication by visiting emergency rooms.
