Psychiatric Treatment | Medical Treatment and Dual Diagnosis for Addiction

At Challenges Addiction Treatment and Relapse Prevention Center, clients receive committed, compassionate care from a highly-credentialed staff. Dual Diagnosis treatment involves careful attention to detail and addressing all areas of functioning that potentially impact an individual’s wellness.

The Challenges’ team of medical and psychiatric professionals are experts in diagnostics, stabilization and providing the necessary treatment to resolve issues relating to substance disorders, addiction, mental health difficulties, and co-occurring disorders. We utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to assure that all areas of functioning are considered. Additionally, Challenges focuses on assessing and treating medical difficulties that may have been undetected or untreated during the course of substance use or acute mental health episodes.

Our treatment includes initial medical and psychiatric stabilization, medically supervised detoxification when necessary, and the design and implementation of the treatment program specifically suited for each individual client.

We offer comprehensive evaluation and treatment that includes thorough history and physicals, psychiatric evaluations, multiple part bio-psychosocial assessments, and consistent follow up throughout the client’s program. Members of our medical and psychiatric team participate in daily rounds, oversee client care, and remain on call 24/7 to address any and all needs that may arise.

Addiction to drugs and alcohol is often a symptom of a bigger problem. Addiction is typically triggered by either mental or physical pain; the drugs and alcohol are often what an individual does to cope with it. It’s often those underlying problems that drive people to use drugs and alcohol — heal those and you have just accomplished a major component in getting sober permanently.

Many treatment centers fail in their approach because they treat the addiction as if it is the problem, instead of looking for the deeper underlying issues.

At Challenges, we have created the optimal environment for recovery from addiction. Our staff is comprised of highly trained addiction professionals, including Psychiatrists and Addictionologists, Nurses, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Nutritionists/Dieticians, and Licensed Mental Health Professionals.

We are a state licensed addiction treatment facility staffed by extremely qualified professionals. Our in-patient rehabilitation program is dedicated to providing a therapeutic environment that meets individual needs and we treat every client with dignity as they heal.

Upon a client’s arrival, a personal recovery plan will be created specifically for them, based on the proven methods of medicine, psychiatry, and psychotherapy combined with time-tested 12-Step programs. Each client is given continuous, structured care with a proper support system to encourage a successful recovery.

Inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation can help clients learn how to permanently change destructive behavior.

Psychiatric Treatment
At Challenges, our clients receive intensive one-on-one psychotherapy using the most progressive clinical techniques available to provide stabilization and, eventually, recovery.

Above and beyond individual therapy and testing, Challenges provides group psychotherapy. This is of paramount importance for our clients, enabling them to begin to explore their issues in a group setting. It is in such groups that our clients receive supportive feedback as well as critical assessment of their problems from people who suffer the same addictions or diagnoses.

Mental illness and addiction often occur together and understanding this fact is a critical element in treating addiction. This condition is called dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorders.

Addiction and mental illness are both brain diseases. A person susceptible to one type of brain disease (addiction) may also be vulnerable to another. They involve the same pathways, molecules and chemicals in the brain

Some people begin abusing drugs or alcohol as a form of self-medication. Drugs of abuse may temporarily relieve some of the symptoms associated with mental illness, such as stress, anxiety, social inhibitions or depression or may be used as a form of pain relief. All too quickly, self-medication can often turn into full-fledged abuse that is difficult, or even impossible, to control.

Challenges uses a variety of different approaches and treatments to help clients who are struggling with addiction and dual diagnosis disorders to “unlearn” their unhealthy thinking process, replacing those thoughts with healthier goals and ideas.
